MAKING CHOICES
OPTIONS AFTER YOU GRADUATE HIGH SCHOOL
High school graduates begin a career pathway as “Lifelong Learners.” It begins with making choices on how you will proceed on your exciting life path. Your choices include:
-
Continuing your studies at an educational institution
-
Learning, hands-on, at the job site
-
Joining an apprenticeship program
-
Joining the U.S. Armed Services
You will have the opportunity to explore more about all the available choices.
Olivia and Logan have been talking with their parents and high school Guidance Counselor about careers. Both live on Long Island and have been told of the many research labs and pharmaceutical companies expanding in this area. The recent media attention to the dangers of a new Coronavirus has further inspired them. After graduation, both want to join the growing workforce engaged in research leading to the cure of new diseases.
Olivia has learned of colleges away from home and prefers studies leading to a degree in Clinical Research. Logan wants to attend a two-year community college and earn a two-year degree that he can use to continue on to a four-year degree, if he chooses. Two pathways, one passion to be a part of The Cure!

4-Year University Away
After much investigation, Olivia decided the University of Vermont, UVM, had the dedicated major of studies in Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science she was looking for. Plus it had a medical center as well. And she loved the campus and dorms!
In this step,
-
Take a look UVM's Web Site and share why you might or might not consider joining Olivia in attending this school?
-
Olivia liked the extra learning and experience they offered "Beyond the Classroom." Do you think the practicums, research with faculty, study abroad and Biomedical and Health Sciences Club would be a good opportunity for you on your path to a career in Clinical Research?

Logan has been considering local two-year colleges. One community college suggested by his High School Guidance Counselor is Nassau Community College. This college has several Allied Health Sciences majors he can consider. Logan will be able to volunteer as a helper at the local hospital while attending college. A two-year degree would prepare him for entry into a position in the health care field. After Logan earns his two-year degree, he would also be prepared to continue to a full four-year BS Degree, if he desires to do so.
